1. National Defence Academy (NDA) Entry:
- Eligibility:
- Candidates must be male and between 16.5 to 19.5 years old.
- Must have passed Class 12 (Science stream for Air Force and Navy).
- Written Exam: Conducted by UPSC, it consists of:
- Mathematics (300 marks) and
- General Ability Test (GAT) (600 marks).
- SSB Interview: Selected candidates attend a 5-day Service Selection Board (SSB) interview, testing psychological aptitude, leadership, and communication skills.
- Medical Examination: Rigorous medical and physical fitness evaluation.
- Training: 3 years at NDA (Pune) followed by 1 year at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) for Army-specific training.
2. Combined Defence Services (CDS) Entry:
- Eligibility:
- Graduate degree (any stream for the Army).
- Age between 19 and 24 years.
- Written Exam: Conducted by UPSC, it includes:
- English, General Knowledge, and Mathematics (300 marks total).
- SSB Interview and Medical Examination follow the same process as NDA entrants.
- Training: After selection, 1.5 years at IMA.
Is It Easy to Pass?
- No, it’s not easy. Both NDA and CDS have highly competitive exams with a low selection rate. The SSB interview is particularly challenging, as it tests mental strength, leadership, and decision-making skills. Only candidates with strong academic, physical, and leadership abilities succeed.
